The Fort Ripley Rebels shut out the Buckman Billygoats 5-0 to advance to the Region 8C Championship.  Logan Kalis fired a Complete-Game 5-hit shutout, with only 1 hit leaving the infield.

Fort Ripley got on the scoreboard against Buckman starter Chad Weiss, a draftee from the Pierz Lakers, in the bottom of the 2nd.  Brett Kramer led off with an infield single, then stole 2nd.  Rhett Williamson then singled to right-center to drive in Kramer with the first run of the game.

Buckman managed a 2nd inning infield single by Andrew Rueckert off Logan Kalis but left him on 1st base.

In the top of the 3rd, Matt Tautges slapped a single through the left side of the infield to lead off, but was picked off by Kalis.  Kalis then got a come-backer to the mound and a grounder to 3rd to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 3rd, the Rebels loaded the bases with 1 out on a walk to Brian Skluzacek and singles from Zach Heidmann and Logan Kalis, but Chad Weiss recorded strikeouts of Brett Kramer and Rhett Williamson to end the inning and leave the bases loaded.

Buckman was retired in order by Kalis in the top of the 4th.  In the bottom of the 4th, Fort Ripley loaded the bases with 1 out on 3 consecutive singles from Ray Austin, Brad Waytashek an Brian Skluzacek.  Nick Jelacie drove in Ray Austin with a fielders choice ground out to make it 2-0 after 4 innings.

In the top of the 5th, Buckman got back-to-back infield singles with 2 outs from Travis Kahl and Matt Tautges.  Kalis ended that threat by getting Lane Girtz to fly out to center fielder Nick Jelacie.  In the bottom of the 5th, the Rebels added to their lead again.  The scoring rally began with Brett Kramer beating out a bunt single with 1 out.  After a steal of 2nd, Rhett Williamson's grounder to 2nd was misplayed for an error and Kramer raced home from 2nd on the play to make it 3-0.

In the top of the 6th, Noah Boser reached on a lead-off infield single, followed by a walk to Matt Kummet to bring the potential tying run to the plate with no outs.  Kalis got out of trouble with a fly out to center, a pop out to 1st and a ground out to 2nd.  Chad Weiss retired the Rebels in order in the bottom of the 6th.

Kalis worked a 1-2-3 top of the 7th, with the Rebels leading 3-0 heading into the 7th inning stretch.  In the bottom of the 7th, Zach Heidmann crushed a lead-off Homer to make it 4-0.  After a pair of Weiss strikeouts, Rhett Williamson smashed a solo Homer to give the Rebels a 5-0 lead.

Buckman would not threaten again against Kalis, who finished the game by retiring the final 12 Buckman batters he faced as the Rebels prevailed 5-0 and advanced to the Region 8C Championship against Nisswa on Sunday in Avon.  With the loss, Buckman is slotted in as the #3 seed out of Region 8C headed into the State Tournament.
